How to personalize a dollar store clock
What you need:
- A clock from the dollar store (3.50$+txs)
- AA battery X 1 because the battery is not included with the clock.
- An image of your choice or a design you created
- A color printer (or access to a print shop)
- Scissors
- Stick of glue (or adhesive tape if that's all you have)
- A needle or the pin of a pin back button. This will be your Piercing tool
This do-it-yourself works very well for this particular clock model. It can be found at the dollar store for 3.50$
Unscrew both caps at the back in order to unlatch it from the packaging.
Pop the transparent plastic top cover by slowly squeezing the sides and pulling. You will notice that the plastic has 3 clips that align with 3 holes in order to hold in place. Remember this for later, when you reassemble it.
Gently pull the clock hands out one by one. Be careful not to bend the clock hands. Try to handle them only by their bases.
Unclip the clock mechanism. There are 2 clips holding it in place.
Print and cut your design. (You can also do this step at the very beginning).
In order to cover the entire surface, your design must be printed in a 6.77" diameter circle. Here is an adjusted PDF Template.
Use scissors to manually cut your circular printed design as precisely as you can.
Spread a little bit of stick glue on the clock surface where you will place your design. Glue is preferable, but you can also use a few pieces of adhesive tape if that's all you have. Place and align your design on the surface of the clock.
Flip it around and notice the hole at the center.
Use your piercing tool (needle or the pin of a pinback button) to pierce a small hole through the center of your paper and with careful circular motions, enlarge the hole with your tool.
Align and click the clock mechanism back in to its original place while making sure the white stem pokes through the hole. If the hole is too small, enlarge it a little more with the piercing tool until the stem can fit through.
Carefully place back the clock hands in this order: Hour, Minute, Second.
Place the transparent plastic top cover while aligning the 3 clips with the 3 holes.
Place the AA Battery in its designated space and set the time.
Done!
